The 1700’s in Rome: Artists and Travellers to the Capital
Guided tour led in Italian by Patrizia Masini as part of the European Heritage Day 2013.
During the 18th century, Rome hosted the most prestigious art academies but also private schools held by artists of International fame. A number of paintings of the permanent collection of the Museo di Roma by artists such as Subleyras, Reynolds, Batoni, and Gavin Hamilton show how Rome, the capital of the Papal State, was the preferred destination of artists and cultured travelers from across Europe especially during the second half of the 18th century and thus the center of the International art market of the time. Guided tour led by Patrizia Masini.
