Vita in Comune (City life)

The Campidoglio’s Press office safeguards a veritable treasure that is, effectively, the City’s memory-bank and a record of Rome’s historic and cultural heritage that therefore also belongs and pertains to the entire nation. Collective memories that begin with the 30’s and the Campidoglio’s first official photographer, Ottavio D’Agostini. His successors have added their shots to an ever-growing Archive collection that now amounts to some 50 thousand photographs, all documenting events that have taken place in Rome since the early decades of the 20th century through to the present day,
The exhibition trail has been divided into three, themed sections. The first covers Institutional Ceremonies with portraits of the various Mayors, guests that have been formally received at the Campidoglio and personalities from the world of entertainment.
The next section is dedicated to city planning, “l’Urbanistica”, with images that bear witness to the transformations the Capital has undergone from its centre to its suburbs, changes to city-planning, the architecture and the cityscape itself, not forgetting the profound social changes that have accompanied them.
The third sections covers various aspects of the city, from the large-scale events it has hosted, as well as the festas and social events that have – and continue to involve the local community and Rome as a whole.

The exhibition also features a video and other film clips provided by Rai Teche (Rai being the national, public TV network).
