Yorick Festival - Yorick l'incantatore

This year the Roman Carnival presents the Yorick Festival - dedicated to Yorick, the jester in Hamlet - through this figure the artistic director Leonardo Petrillo wanted to pay homage to the "folly", which is also typical of the carnival, without which it would be imprudent to cope with life.
"Yorick the caster" is a sort of "prequel" of Hamlet, in which Yorick, the jester, "defends" the child Hamlet from the excesses of their parents: the affections of the Queen Mother that threatens to transform him into a new Oedipus and the authority of the King (a father-master) that undermines the fragile character of the prince.
One of the merits of the Roman Carnival is that it has brought Commedia dell'arte performances back to Piazza Navona, right where it was represented in the middle of the eighteenth century: an Italian historical, artistic and cultural tradion which is now recognized worldwide.
