Artisti all’Opera
The theatre is a universe made of artists such as musicians, composers, directors, painters and illustrators and costume designers. The story of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma is narrated through the infinite beauty of its stage settings. #artistiallopera
The result of a joint work by some of the greatest artists of the 20th century, from Pablo Picasso to Renato Guttuso, from Giorgio De Chirico to Afro, from Alberto Burri to Giacomo Manzù, from Mario Ceroli to Arnaldo Pomodoro to end up with William Kentridge
Artists at the Opera is, in fact, the title of the new exhibition that is hosted from November 17, 2017 to March 11, 2018 at the Museo di Roma in Palazzo Braschi which is situated in Piazza Navona, in the very heart of the Roman Renaissance and Baroque architecture.
This exhibition runs through the long history of this theatre which began at the end of the nineteenth century with the premiere of Cavalleria Rusticana. “Artists at the Opera” is not only a “simple” collection of items of theatrical-art, it is also an opportunity for the visitors / spectators to get to know the exciting history of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, by learning anecdotes about great operas, by discovering “unknown” masterpieces that have escaped the attention of the great public, and by spying on the work of craftsmen, recreated through a brilliant set-up, so as to overturn the normal perspective.
Thanks to the archive collection of the Teatro dell’Opera, where more than 60,000 costumes and 11,000 sketches and drawings are kept, and thanks also to the films archive of the Istituto Luce, the visitor / spectator is allowed to enters the theatre’s backstage and appreciate from a close distance all the details that usually are detected by the audience from far away.
